Ocoopa Rechargeable Hand Warmer: Is it worth the hype?

I like nothing more, and only a gadget can do, than a device that does two things exceptionally well! The $36.99 Ocoopa hand warmer does turn right by raising your hands. But it also doubles as a 10,000-mAh power bank with two output ports to charge two devices simultaneously. The tool I never knew I needed — let’s take a moment to dissect it.

What’s in the box

  • Ocoopa hand warmer
  • Lanyard
  • Cloth carry case
  • 20-inch USB-C cable
  • Quick start guide

Design

The device’s design had a nice texture, with a different texture on the heated pad portion of the hand warmer, making it easier to grip. There are three little LEDs on the hand warmer when it is in use. When red, they indicate the heat being produced, and when charging the device, they flash blue, showing the battery status.

The height of the Ocoopa is such that it is comfortable to hold in one hand. The upper part is wider than the lower part and thinner front to back, so it fits into your hand well. It’s roughly as tall as those 8 oz water bottles, but it is half as thick. Its four rounded edges are covered in a matte silicone coating, and it feels pleasantly soft. If needed, there’s a notch on the side to fiddle with the lanyard. On the broader end of the unit, there are three ports. A USB-A port in the middle, a Micro-USB, and a USB-C port on either side of that. The Micro-USB and USB-C ports can be used to power up the Ocoopa. The USB-A port can get you up to Power Delivery 2.0 speeds, which is excellent. The USB-C port can also function as an output. So, It can recharge it in two different methods and two devices simultaneously.

On the top of your Ocoopa, above the ports, you’ll see a 1-button switch. If you double-tap it, the 3 LED lights will illuminate in blue to inform you of how much charge is still in the battery. If you hold down the button, you’ll be allowed to turn on the heating feature to the initial heating level, and a single tap will cycle through 3 levels of heating. Finally, a cloth bag was provided to transport it, but I use it so much that I always put it in the bag.

Performance

I recently used the Ocoopa device last winter season. And that made it all so much easier for our team. We used it while we went skiing, while waiting for lunch at the top of a ski mountain, and when we walked around town at night. Since the Ocoopa warms up on both sides of the device, your hands warm up quickly, and you can even hold the unit. It’s incredible; the first heating level was plenty sufficient for me. Levels 2 and 3 were too warm for me. I could see how valuable those warmer settings might be if I were camping in cold weather. Still, the first level has been plenty sufficient for my needs. I’ve observed some other travelers advise that the lowest water temperature setting was too hot for their liking. So it may be best for me not to work with it, or I will lose my battery.

The warmth lasted a minimum of 2 and a half hours. One for each hand makes for a more comfortable outing on a winter’s day. Even in the depths of winter, though I was freezing and still using gloves, the middle setting was sufficient once my hands were heated.

Final Thoughts

You can only add a few power banks to your bag. So as a power bank that can warm your hands, it’s a good thing. Also, the worth of $36.99 is no problem to me. You should purchase these for personal use to present some to friends and family who could benefit from them.
